the double bind of parenting

There’s a way in which we traded brokenness for survival on our unique evolutionary journey as humans. (A personal opinion)

//

In order to become as smart as we are, we had to be born early enough so that baby heads could still fit through birth canals.

//

And this meant a prolonged “gestation” period outside of the womb.

//

A 20 year stretch of dependency and development increases risk of trauma, and leaves us mentally and emotionally vulnerable for too long of a time to emerge completely unscathed.

//

Which is why I love this quote by Martín Prechtel:

//

Because the human is not built to be totally healthy, we are all in a continual process of healing.
